Social Impact

Beyond Advisory

Our work extends beyond advisory. Through venture philanthropy, microlending, rural energy access, and education, we invest time and resources where they create lasting community impact.

Active Giving

Social Venture Partners (SVP India)

Both Rahul and Netra are Partners in SVP India’s Pune chapter — a venture philanthropy network that combines funding, expertise, and mentoring for social enterprises.

Kiva — Global Microlending

Rahul has been a Kiva lender since September 2009 — over 16 years of microlending to entrepreneurs in developing countries. "I loan because small businesses create real jobs in their communities. Access to fair credit helps entrepreneurs scale cleaner, more resilient livelihoods."

Rang De — Social Lending & Investment

The Walawalkars are angel investors in Rang De (India’s first RBI-regulated social P2P lending platform), active social lenders on the platform, and advisors to the organization — investing in the platform and using it to create impact.

Snehwan — Children’s Education

Rahul and Netra are supporters and donors of Snehwan, an NGO in Koyali (near Pune) that empowers underprivileged children with education and holistic development. Founded by Ashok Deshmane, Snehwan has been active since 2015.

Foundation Work

WHEELS Global Foundation — Energy Council

Rahul serves as Co-Chair of the Energy Council at WHEELS Global Foundation, a Pan-IIT alumni-led non-profit focused on improving lives in rural India through affordable biogas plants, zero-energy cold storage, and clean energy as part of an Integrated Smart Village Program.

CES Foundation — Rural Microgrids

Before founding WE LLP, Netra directed the CES Foundation, which set up microgrids and sustainable livelihood businesses in Jharkhand, Meghalaya, and Nagaland — bringing reliable electricity to communities that had never had consistent power access.

Animal Welfare — Early Roots

Rahul’s commitment to social impact goes back to his engineering days at Walchand College of Engineering in Sangli, where he worked on a project to improve conditions for wild animals at the Pratapsinh Udayan Zoo — reflecting a lifelong pattern of applying technical skills to causes that matter.
